Sonet Writes Up A Sweet Win For Eagles
Elgin, IL - On a picture perfect Saturday afternoon, it was Homecoming Weekend on the Campus of Judson University. As is tradition, the Eagles hosted on the pitch after an early morning alumni game.
As the sum filled the air, the Eagles took on new conference member Mount Mary University for a CCAC conference match. With energy in the air, the Eagles were able to get some early goals and play with a lead.
In the 18 minute minute mark, a healthy Clara Sonet got the scoring started with her second goal of the season. She was assisted by Liza Von Blumenthal.
One minute later, the duo traded places as it was Sonet setting up Von Blumenthal for the goal. It was her second of the year.
The Eagles took that 2-0 lead into halftime, controlling the pace throughout the match. Judson outshot the Blue Angels 16-1.
In the second half, it was all Eagles again flying around the field. They added 27 more shots for a game total of 43 shots to Mount Mary's three.
In the 74th minute, it was captain Isabella Garrelts getting her first goal of the year, assisted by Sonet.
A few minutes later, Sonet was poetry in motion as she was back for more, with her second goal of the game, and third on the season. Sonet finished with two goals and two assists on the afternoon.
In the 88th minute, Anika Elgin was able to find one more goal for JU to make the score 5-0, which would be the final score. It was Elgin's first goal of the year.
With just five goals in their first seven games, it was great to see a much needed offensive outburst for the Eagles in this contest. They now stand at 2-6-0 overall, and 1-3-0 in conference play. Thanks to Sonet's great play, this game was certainly a little song of victory on a celebration weekend for Judson.
The Eagles will be back at it on Wednesday at St. Xavier.
