Buffalo, NY – The Judson University men's volleyball team opened its weekend on a high note, defeating D'Youville in four sets on Saturday afternoon at the Saints Center Gym. After dropping the opening set, the Eagles rallied to take the next three and secure the victory, 20–25, 25–21, 25–22, 25–21.
The Eagles will compete this weekend in new territory as they travel to the New York area for the first time, and will compete against three NCAA Division II teams.
Judson shook off a slow start and found its rhythm offensively as the match progressed. The Eagles totaled 43 kills in the contest and took a bite out of New York in match number one with the comeback win.
Grant Shipley led the attack with 15 kills, providing several key swings during the final three sets as Judson took control of the match. The two time conference setter of the week, Jackson Otto added 10 kills, while Mikey Noettl contributed 9 kills to help balance the offensive effort.
Running the offense, Jacob Lowe dished out 36 assists, keeping the Eagles' hitters involved throughout the match. Judson also applied pressure from the service line, finishing with six service aces in the win.
After falling in the opening set, the Eagles tightened their play in the second frame and evened the match with a 25–21 victory. Judson continued to build momentum in the third set, holding off a late D'Youville push to take a 2–1 lead. The Eagles then closed out the match in the fourth set, pulling away late to seal the 3–1 win.
Judson will continue its weekend slate with additional matches as the Eagles look to keep the momentum rolling on their spring break travels.
