Elgin, IL - The Eagles closed out their opening weekend by hosting NCCAA opponent Oakland City on Saturday afternoon. It was another perfect condition afternoon at Dawson Field that saw a clean match up between the two teams.
The first stage of the match saw Judson get a few looks at the net, but they were unable to convert any scoring chances.
In the 32nd minute, it was Danail Mihaylov who was able to convert a well executed shot to find the net, and a 1-0 Eagles lead. It was Mihaylov's second goal of the season. He was assisted by Mateo Vadora.
Controlling the pace, Judson outshot the Mighty Oaks 14-4 in the first half.
In the second half, it was a defensive stalemate that saw a total of four shots in the half. JU recorded none of those shots, yet it still felt like they were able to control the pace, and execute their game plan playing with a lead.
The game would end 1-0 in favor of Judson, giving them their first victory on the young season. And much like a season ago, the win came in shutout fashion. Ivan Dominguez was only credited with two saves, but he did his part. Last year, half of the Eagles games came in shutout victories. On Saturday, they were able to post shutout number one on the season.
After their opening weekend, they sit at 1-0-1.
In their two games, the Eagles have managed two goals scored, both by newcomer Mihaylov.
Judson's next game will take place next weekend at Spring Arbor in what figures to be a very strong test for the Eagles.
