Elgin, IL - On a busy welcome weekend, the Eagles took to the volleyball court for their first match of the season on Friday night. They hosted Avila University in a battle of Eagles. And what a battle it was as opening night went the distance in a classic. 

Judson took the opening set in a well played 26-24 set. After Avila tied it at a set a piece, set three went to a modest 33-31 decision in favor of Judson. 

Again, Avilia pushed back to tie things up forcing a decisive fifth set. In the final set, Judson was able to prevail on their home turf winning 15-10 to take the match. 

The final line score in favor of Judson: 26-24, 18-25, 33-31, 17-25, 15-10. 

Welcoming a fresh new starting lineup, Jaclyn Riedl led the way with 14 kills. Her counterpart, Maisie Green added 11 kills. Those two heavy hitters project to the new-look Eagles this season. 

Alina Romero paced JU with 25 assists, and Makayla Olar led with 19 digs. Romero also had three of the nine aces for Judson. 

There were a lot of fresh new faces throughout the marathon match as 22 players were able to check in for the opener. 

Judson's welcome weekend quad event will conclude on Saturday when Judson faces Grand View. 

This year is the 35 year anniversary of the opening of the Lindner Fitness Center, and what a way to kick things off with a five set winner.
