Elgin, IL - On Saturday it was senior day for the Eagles Women's Soccer Team, and thankfully the weather held out to make it a pleasant day.
On the field, JU took on the rival Trolls from Trinity Christian. After three epic matches a season ago, this match figured to be a good one.
Trinity got the scoring started just seven minutes in with a goal just under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead.
Judson answered in the 18th minute by a goal from senior Mara Quintero, assisted by Jozie Richert. That made the score 1-1, and it would go into halftime tied at that mark.
With these two teams on the field, the pace is back and forth constantly, making for good, close action.
In the second half, Trinity was able to keep the advantage on their side for the majority of the half, allowing just one Judson shot. The Trolls would add two more goals in the 63rd, and 70th minute. All three goals by Trinity for via the top shelf, just under the crossbar, and just over the out-stretched arms of goalie Eva Fernandez.
Trinity would controll the shots 9-5 in the first half, and 8-1 in the second half, and go on to win the game 3-1.
The setback on senior day puts the Eagles at 5-7-2 overall, and 4-4-2 in conference play. Judson just has two regular season matches left. Their next match, and final home regular season match will be next Saturday October 25th against St. Ambrose.
Judson still is in position to make the conference top 8 seeds for the playoffs. The points are very tight among the top teams.
We want to congratulate the six seniors who did take their walk on this day: Hannah Schmidt, Leslie Moreno, Sarah Madden, Sophia Escalante, Mara Quintero, and co-captain Isabella Garrelts.
