Burnett Competes At NAIA National Tournament
Ypsilanti, MI - standout first-year Eagle Isabell Burnett competed at the NAIA National Women's Golf Tournament at the Eagle Crest Golf Club in Michigan. Burnett qualified for the event by winning the CCAC conference tournament on the individual side. It is the first time that Judson Golf has competed at the National Tournament.
Originally, the event was planned for a four round event, but weather early in the week forced the tournament to be cut to three rounds with a cut after two rounds of play.
In addition to the tournament and practice round, Ivy also had the incredible opportunity to help coach and inspire special needs students at the Special Olympics Golf Clinic hosted by the NAIA which only enhanced the great experience.
Ivy started out really well through her first ten holes of play. She started round one on the back nine with seven pars, one birdie and one bogey. Her tenth hole also was a par, and through 10 holes of play Ivy was tied for the lead.
However, after that Burnett started to run into some bad luck and some tough scores. She completed her first round with an 84 on the par 72 course.
For each day of the tournament, the course played to 5,895 yards, and 180 players competed on the national stage.
In her second round, Ivy had one birdie and finished with an 85. With the change in the schedule, Burnett unfortunately did not make the cut to the final round, but still represented herself and Judson proudly.
Head Coach John Wedell said, "We are incredibly proud of all the hard work, dedication, and determination that got Ivy here. It is amazing just to be here."
Ivy rewrote some Judson records this season, and made history. In CCAC conference honors, she was named the Newcomer of the Year, and narrowly missed being named the player of the year. Coach Wedell was named the conference Head Coach of the Year.
We tip our cap to the golf programs for a fantastic season.
