Eagles Find Second Half Groove For Victory
Whiting, IN - Judson women's basketball earned a road victory on Wednesday evening, pulling away in the second half to defeat Calumet College of St. Joseph 62–49 at the Rittenmeyer Center in Whiting, Indiana.
After a slow offensive start, the Eagles trailed 15–11 at the end of the first quarter, but began to find their rhythm in the second quarter. The Eagles used balanced scoring and strong work on the glass to head into halftime within striking distance, down just 28–26.
The momentum fully shifted coming out of the break, as Judson outscored Calumet 18–8 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
After an uncharacteristic off night in her previous game, Kendra Brown was back at it, and led all scorers with 20 points off the bench. Brown knocked down six three-pointers and provided a major spark during Judson's decisive runs in the second half.
Allyssa Potter added 12 points on four made threes, while Easton Kimball and Madison Carlson each chipped in eight points apiece.
Bridget Grady controlled the paint with a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with seven points.
JU's defense and rebounding proved to be the difference, as the Eagles held a 47–26 advantage on the boards, and converted 26 second-chance points. The Eagles also forced 22 Calumet turnovers, helping them extend the lead to as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter.
With the win, Judson improves to 6–7 overall, and 3–4 in conference play, building momentum as the Eagles continue their conference schedule.
Judson will be back at it on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Governors St. for another CCAC game.
