Eagles Close Out Year In Grand Style
Elgin, IL - There is something about the Eagles and playing around New Year's Eve that is making the three point line en fuego. Nearly a year to the date, when Allyssa Potter made seven three-pointers in a victory, the trick was turned again on Tuesday afternoon.
This time by junior guard Kendra Brown who filled up the stat book against Rockford on this day. Brown made five three-pointers in a dominant first half, and two more in the second half of the Eagles' 74-43 victory over Rockford. The seven three pointers made in a game is one shy of the school record set back in 2002. Brown is now the sixth player in school history to convert seven threes in a single game, joining her teammate Potter among others.
The Judson University women's basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance Tuesday afternoon, pulling away early and cruising to a 74–43 victory over Rockford University inside the Lindner Fitness Center.
Judson set the tone in the opening quarter, using defensive pressure and efficient shooting to jump out to a 22–13 lead. The Eagles continued to build momentum in the second quarter, exploding for 27 points while holding Rockford to just nine. A barrage of three-pointers and points off turnovers helped Judson take a commanding 49–22 advantage into halftime.
Brown for the game, finished with 28 points in all, including 16 points in the second quarter, igniting a decisive run that put the game out of reach.
Judson maintained control throughout the second half, outscoring Rockford 25–21 after the break. The Eagles' defense forced 35 Rockford turnovers, converting them into 36 points, while also winning the rebounding battle, 49–39.
In addition to Brown's scoring effort, Judson received balanced contributions across the lineup. Allyssa Potter added timely perimeter shooting, while Jayda Centeno and Madison Carlson helped facilitate the offense as the Eagles finished with 17 assists on 29 made field goals. Judson also dominated bench scoring, holding a 44–9 advantage in reserve points.
Callie Kurczek led the team with nine rebounds, while Bridget Grady played hard-nose defense making it difficult for Rockford to get clean looks at the basket.
With the win, Judson improves to 5–6 overall. The Eagles will look to carry the momentum forward as they continue conference play in the new year. They will open up the new calendar year on Saturday, when they host Indiana Northwest in a CCAC matchup.
