Eagles Reach Mark Not Seen In 20 Years
Elgin, IL - After two non-conference wins to start the season, the Eagles stepped into conference play for the first time, and welcomed into town newcomer Mount Mary University. Both teams came into the contest without a blemish on their records with Mount Mary 3-0, and Judson 2-0.
The opening quarter saw both teams knock down a bunch of shots in a well played first frame. The Blue Angels made four 3-pointers, while the Eagles made nine shots and the two sides dualed to a 20-20 tie. Allyssa Potter had five of the team's 20 points early on.
In the second quarter, both teams cooled a bit with their sharp shooting, but the defense was certainly ratcheted up. Judson began to full court press and pressure Mount Mary which got the Blue Angels rattled. JU forced six turnovers which led to fast break points, and a slight lead 36-32 heading into halftime.
After the break, Judson regained their shooters touch with Potter making two from deep, and Kendra Brown knocking down another. JU 10-17 for in the quarter to stretch a lead into double figures. The Eagles also maintained their pressure defense getting Mount Mary out of sync, and out of gas. The strong defense was the key that led Judson in this contest.
The final quarter saw the Eagles build the lead to 21 points and won this game going away with the final score 77-56.
Judson had four players in double figures with Kendra Brown leading with 17 points, Potter with 16, Madison Carlson with 15, and Easton Kimball with 11 points.
For the game, Judson went 31-64 from the field, and while the 3-point shooting was not as crisp as their first two games, JU made enough, added in some fast break points, and brought this one into the winner's circle.
It is the second straight game where Kenda Brown has led the team in scoring coming off of the bench. Jayda Centeno added in eight rebounds, and seven assists.
With the 3-0 start, it is the first time that Judson has started a season 3-0 since the year 2004. JU has played terrific defense early on, and have made a ton of key shots during this hot start. This new looked Eagles team has seen many players make strong starts to the year, and are not showing signs of slowing down to this point.
The Eagles are now off for a few days, as they next suit up on Monday, November 17th at Edgewood College.
