Three Point Shooting Leads Eagles To Opening Day Win
Elgin, IL - On Saturday afternoon, the Eagles tipped off their brand new season with a home game against Waldorf.
The new looked Eagles came out of the gates hot as they scored 21 points in the opening quarter, and led 21-8 after one. Senior Madison Carlson had three 3-pointers in the opening quarter to lead JU early on.
While Waldorf made a bit of a comeback in the second quarter, the Eagles still took a 33-30 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the sharp shooting returned as JU went 5-10 from long range in the frame. Allyssa Potter made three of them, and newcomer Kendra Brown added the other two.
With the Eagles maintaining a lead, Carlson, Brown, and Chapel Brown each added one more long range bucket to seal the deal. In total, Judson was 11-34 from the three point line.
Led by Carlson's 14 points, the Eagles had five players in double figures for scoring. Potter had 13, Kendra Brown with 11, Bridget Grady with 10, and it was a welcomed back site to see senior Easton Kimball return to the lineup as she added 11 points.
Kimball missed much of last season with an injury, but she returned healthy and ready to go in game one. Along with her 11 points, she added 18 rebounds for a double-double. Seven of those rebounds came in the third quarter alone.
With the Eagles now healthy, and reloaded, this opening game can certainly be a promising sign of things to come.
Judson had 22 assists in the victory, and once they got the lead in the opening quarter, they never trailed for the rest of the game.
Judson will now travel to division one Bradley on Tuesday Night for an exhibition match before returning home on Saturday to take on East-West University.
