Eagles Conclude Regular Season With Senior Day
Elgin, IL - On Saturday, the regular season concluded for the Eagles. With the final home games, it was also senior day for JU.
In between games, the Eagles recognized six seniors playing their final games on the diamond. the six seniors were pitchers Haley Slaymaker, Abigael Marines, outfielder Allie Arwood, and infielders Cynthia Alvillar, Tessa Freedman, and Ashlynn Avenarius. Allie Arwood was the lone four-year player to play each season here at Judson. This season, Arwood led the team in stolen bases with 11.
Slaymaker and Marines both logged over 24 innings to help contribute to the Eagles pitching staff this season. Slaymaker started seven games in the circle, while Marines started three, including the final game of the regular season on Saturday.
Hurt for much of the season Avenarius was able to get in a few at-bats on her final day in uniform.
Freedman and Alvillar were two of the offensive leaders for the Eagles all season long. Freedman was a stable force at first base while hitting .297 with five doubles, and a home run.
Alvillar was at times all-world for the Eagles, leading the team at the plate, and in the field on defense. Her stellar defense included many diving plays good for 64 putouts and 81 assists. But at the plate, Alvillar was a stat filler leading Judson in nearly every offensive category including nine doubles, two triples, and three home runs. She added 27 RBI's and 20 runs scored. Alvillar started all 41 games, playing all but two innings this season. Her .456 batting average was one of the best not just in the conference, but in the NAIA. Alvillar ranked as high as third in batting average nationally.
With the season concluded, the Eagles say farewell to six members, while turning the page and getting ready for next fall with a new group ready to lead on the field.
