Strong Pitching Leads Eagles To Split
Elgin, IL - The Eagles began a critcal series against Calumet on Tuesday with a home double header.
In game one, Judson received strong pitching from freshmen Grace Allgood, who earned her first win of the season after pitching six strong innings. Allgood allowed four runs, and two earned while striking out four batters.
After falling behind 2-0, JU tallied single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead.
Calumet then rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth to lead 4-3. The Eagles refused to back down, and responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 6-4.
In that sixth inning, Isabella Dugo had a big two-run single, and Allgood added one more RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The Eagles out-hit Calumet 11-7 with three hit games by Grace Pekoc and Allie Arwood leading the way.
Abigael Marines came on in the seventh inning to close things out for her first save of the season in the 6-4 final victory.
Game two between the two teams was a true pitchers dual.
The two teams were held scoreless through six innings. Chelsea Herrick was strong again in the home circle pitching six shutout innings. Herrick scattered five hits, and was able to escape any threats that Calumet drew up throughout the game.
A two-out double in the top of the seventh inning gave Calumet a 1-0 lead.
Base runners were a bit harder to come by for JU in game two as they were held to just four hits. Allgood had a double with Tessa Freedman, Jenna Yakey, and Pekoc added singles.
Calumet survived game two with a 1-0 win for the two sides to split the double header at the end of the day.
The two teams will now travel to Calumet on Wednesday for a single game to close out the series. The winner of the game will earn a very crucial tie-breaker in the race for the CCAC playoffs. Judson has five games remaining in the regular season with a chance at the conference playoffs still in the balance.
