Eagles Out-Hit Bees But Fall
Elgin, IL - On Wednesday afternoon, the Eagles got solid pitching, solid defense, and out-hit their opponent. But the one thing that was missing was the total in the scoring column.
JU completed their three-game series against St. Ambrose with a single game in front of the home crowd after a road double header on Tuesday. In this contest, it was the Bees prevailing 3-0, but not without a few close calls by the Eagles who had St. Ambrose on the ropes.
After falling behind 2-0 in the third innings, the Eagles had a key scoring chance in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two runners on, a roll of the dice by JU resulted in a double play, with credit going to the Bees for making two perfect throws. The latter throw preventing a run being scored by Cynthia Alvillar, and keeping Judson off of the scoreboard.
On the very next play, the Bees once again were able to get an out at home plate ending the scoring chances for the inning.
In the fifth inning, JU had a bases loaded and no outs situation that also proved not to be as St. Ambrose was able to wiggle out of it while allowing zero runs.
After a sixth inning home run gave St. Ambrose a 3-0 lead, Judson was unable to counterpunch anymore that led to the 3-0 final score in favor of the Bees.
In the circle, the Eagles received two great efforts from Chelsea Herrick and Abigael Marines who held the Bees lineup at bay. Herrick went 5 and a third innings, while Marines finished up with one and two thirds innings allowing no runs on no hits in relief.
The Eagles outhit St. Ambrose six to five with a pair of hits coming from Cynthia Alvillar and Grace Allgood.
Alvillar was also a human highlight reel on defense making several diving plays to help the JU effort.
The Eagles will get right back at it on Thursday when they have two make up games against Mount Mary on tap.
