Eagles Circle Toward Earned Split
Viera, FL - The Eagles began their spring break trip with their opening two games at the Chain of Lakes Complex down in Viera, Florida.
Judson struck early and held off a late surge to secure a 10-8 victory over Goshen on Saturday afternoon.
JU (2-3) wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first inning. After Allie Arwood was hit by a pitch and swiped second, Cynthia Alvillar and Isabelle Schadle delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Tessa Freedman followed with a run-scoring knock of her own before Madelynn Petty cleared the bases with a three-run double to right, giving the Eagles a commanding 5-0 lead.
The momentum continued in the second inning. Bella Farias worked a walk and Arwood reached again to set the table for Alvillar, who launched a three-run home run to center field to extend the advantage to 8-0.
Judson responded to Goshen comeback bid in the bottom half of the fourth. Schadle singled to ignite the rally, and Freedman delivered the decisive blow with a two-run home run to right field, pushing the Eagles back in front 10-7.
In the circle, Chelsea Herrick performed a workmen like effort to earn the victory. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings in relief to earn her first win of the season, stranding multiple runners over the final two frames to preserve the victory.
Offensively, Alvillar paced the Eagles with three hits and three RBIs, while Schadle was a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Freedman drove in three, and Petty added three RBIs of her own as Judson totaled 10 runs on 10 hits.
For Judson, they fell in their second game of the day, 9-1 to the University of Michigan Dearborn.
The Eagles will look to bounce back as they are scheduled to play eight more times at the Space Coast Complex as spring break play continues in Florida.
