STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Judson track and field teams competed in Illinois Wesleyan University's annual Keck Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8 as the women's track and field team displayed a strong showing.
The distance medley relay team, composed of Jordan Wagner, Victoria Dietsch, Gabby Nystrom, and Meaghan Ciochon won with an exceptional time of 12:28.55, qualifying for the NAIA National Championships to be held in Geneva, Ohio on March 6. The DMR team currently ranks second in the NCCAA national polls.
The sophomore, Wagner, did some personal qualifying on Saturday as well. Having already notched a spot in the NCCAA National Championships in the 800 meter event, the Harper College transfer hit a time of 5:20.91 in the mile run placing her fifth out of 24 competitors, and qualifying her for a second event in the NCCAA National Championships. Wagner currently ranks second in the NCCAA in the 800 meter run.
Others who qualified for the NCCAA National Championships were Ciochon in the 800 meter with a 2:23.03 time and Junior Sarah Miller finishing a spot behind Wagner with a time of 5:26.76.
Sophomore's Alisha Barnaby and Kilee Hoffman performed well in the throwing events coming up with a pair of fourth place finishes. Hoffman threw a massive personal record of 11.49 meters in the shot put, qualifying her for the NCCAA national track meet.
Barnaby, who is ranked seventh in the weight throw and ninth in the shot put in the NCCAA polls, heaved the weight 14.82 meters with an injured hand.
On the men's side, there were many strong turnouts with several personal records and three qualifying performances.
Cyrus French finished ninth out of 30 competitors in the 400 meter run with a season best of 52.42 qualifying him for the NCCAA Championship track meet.
Steve Galloway qualified for NCCAA in the high jump with a height of 1.80 meters and Gavin Fleagle in the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters.
The Eagles will be set to compete again this Saturday, Feb. 14, in the CCAC Championships. The events will take place in Naperville, Ill.
