Bavich Leads Eagles To Sweep
Eldridge, IA - Judson University opened its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with an authoritative performance on Tuesday, securing a 4-0 sweep over St. Ambrose University.
The Eagles established their dominance early during the doubles portion of the afternoon, where tactical execution in the lower flights proved decisive. While the top court saw a neck-and-neck battle that remained unfinished due to the clinch, Joshua Bavich and Brock Dawson provided the necessary momentum at the number two position with a 6-3 victory. This was quickly followed by a near-flawless performance at number three doubles, where Julius Fortun and Nicolas Donoso surrendered only a single game in a 6-1 rout to clinch the doubles point and a 1-0 team lead.
As the match moved into singles play, Judson maintained its high-pressure approach to quickly reach the four-point winning threshold. Javier Sanchez was the first off the court at the number two spot, putting on a clinical display of baseline consistency. Sanchez dismantled his opponent 6-1, 6-0, giving the Fighting Bees no room to establish a rhythm.
Nicolas Donoso soon followed with his second win of the day at the number three position, utilizing heavy top-spin and aggressive court positioning to secure a 6-2, 6-1 victory. With the team score sitting at 3-0, Florian Koppitsch provided the final blow at number six singles. Koppitsch showed great resilience by controlling the pace from the start to earn a 6-1, 6-2 win that officially ended the contest. Because Judson reached the four-point requirement so efficiently, the remaining matches at number one, four, and five singles were left unfinished.
Now sitting at 1-0 in conference play, the Eagles will look to carry this momentum into a quick turnaround as they host Holy Cross College this Wednesday for another home conference battle.
