Eagles Soar Over Millikin University
Hanover Park, IL - The Judson University men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on the courts, securing a convincing victory against Millikin University fueled by a strong start in doubles and a clinical showing across the singles lineup.
The Eagles set the tone early by clinching the doubles point with great play at the top of the order. Brayden Kopp and Florian Koppitsch led the charge at the #1 spot with a swift 6-2 victory, while the duo of Nicolas Donoso and Cesar Otondo Villafan battled through a competitive set at #2 doubles to win 6-4 and guarantee the early lead. Although Millikin managed to take the #3 doubles position, the momentum remained firmly in Judson's favor heading into individual play.
The Eagles carried that energy directly into singles, winning five of the six contested matches to pull away from the Big Blue. Javier Sanchez displayed remarkable resilience at the #2 position, bouncing back from a narrow first-set tiebreak loss to dominate the final two sets 6-3, 10-1.
At the #3 spot, Nicolas Donoso mirrored that comeback spirit, shaking off a 4-6 opening set to dismantle his opponent 6-2, 10-5 in the subsequent frames. While Millikin found their lone singles victory at the #1 position in a hard-fought three-set match, the bottom half of the Judson lineup proved to be untouchable.
Joshua Bavich, Luca Zandboer, and Florian Koppitsch all secured straight-set victories while conceding a combined total of only seven games. Zandboer was particularly efficient at #5 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Koppitsch capped off an undefeated day for himself with a 6-0, 6-3 result at the #6 position.
Looking ahead, the Eagles will look to carry this momentum into a challenging back-to-back stretch this week. Judson travels to Crystal Lake today, March 19, for a 3:00 PM matchup against McHenry County College before heading out on Friday, March 20, to take on North Central College at 7:00 PM.
This comprehensive team effort against Millikin underscores the Eagles' depth and competitive drive as they enter this critical phase of their spring campaign.
