Eagles Get First Spring Win
Chicago, IL - In their second encounter of the spring season, the Judson University men's tennis team hit their stride on Saturday, putting together a clinical performance to defeat Prairie State College 6-1.
After an opening match earlier this spring, the Eagles broke through into the win column in convincing fashion, sweeping the doubles point and claiming five of the six singles matches. The momentum was established early in doubles play as Judson's pairings worked in sync to overwhelm the opposition. Brock Dawson and Joshua Bavich set a high bar at the No. 1 position, racing to a 6-0 shutout.
The clincher for the doubles point came at the No. 3 spot, where Julius Fortun and Niel Hentrich secured a 6-2 win. Completing the sweep at No. 2 doubles, Nicolas Donoso and Cesar Otondo Villafan showed great composure in a tiebreak, winning 7-6 (7-2) to give Judson a clean slate heading into singles competition.
As the match transitioned to singles, the Eagles quickly extended their lead across the board. Josh Bavich provided a spark at the No. 2 flight with a 6-2, 6-1 victory, while Julius Fortun followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance at No. 4 singles.
The team victory was further solidified at the No. 3 position, where Florian Koppitsch cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win, ensuring Judson's first team win of the spring. The bottom of the lineup continued to produce as the afternoon progressed.
Niel Hentrich earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, and Brock Dawson capped off the scoring for the Eagles at the No. 6 spot, grinding out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory.
With the first win of the spring now secured, the Eagles will look to build on this momentum as they continue their non-conference schedule. Judson returns to action for their next match against Quincy on Sunday, February 22nd.
