Judson Battles Hard But Falls At Purdue Northwest
Hammond, IN- The Judson University men's tennis team took the courts for its second match of the fall season on the road at NCAA Division II Purdue Northwest. Despite determined efforts in both singles and doubles, the Eagles came away with a 0–7 loss against a strong Pride squad.
Doubles play set the tone early, with all three Eagle pairs fighting hard but coming up short by identical 4–6 scores.
In singles, the Eagles showed resilience across the lineup. Florian Koppitsch battled through a tight second set before falling 1–6, 5–7. Joshua Bavich kept both sets close in a 3–6, 3–6 decision, while Javier Sanchez struck first with a 6–4 opening set before his opponent mounted a comeback, 2–6, 2–6. Julius Fortun faced a tough challenge in a 1–6, 0–6 match, and Ian Beeman nearly forced a deciding set, pushing the second into a tiebreak before dropping 2–6, 6–7. The closest contest came from Cesar Otondo Villafan, who split sets and battled deep into a match tiebreak, falling just short 6–4, 3–6, 8–10.
Although the final result went the way of Purdue Northwest, Judson gained valuable match experience and showed encouraging signs against a high-level opponent.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, September 14, when they travel to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering in their third match of the season.
