Campbellsville, KY - In a late season non-conference battle, the Eagles traveled to Kentucky to take on Campbellsville. Both teams are members of the NCCAA, and both made the National tournament in Florida last December.
Coming off of their 7-0 win, Judson got off to a fast start scoring two goals in the game's first nine minutes. Inigo Capellan scored the game's first goal, it was his first goal of the year. Just 90 seconds later, Danail Mihaylov scored another. It is Mihaylov's team leading fifth goal of the year.
Up 2-0 in a hurry, Judson seemingly had things where they wanted them. But Campbellsville, was able to respond. The Tigers scored three times before the half. The three goals allowed in 20 minutes was uncharacteristic for this Eagles squad who prides itself on defense.
The Tigers took a 3-2 lead into the half. Judson led the shots in the first half 8-4.
In the second half, it was Campbellsville controlling more of the pace, and controlling the shots 11-8. The second half was a draw, with the final score 3-2 in favor of Campbellsville.
This match certainly lived up to the high expectations among two quality NCCAA teams.
This was the first time this season that the Eagles allowed more than one goal. Based on this season's trends, even allowing the second goal was a system shock for JU.
Mark Leavy was credited with a team high four shots out of the team's 16 total.
Judson's non-conference schedule has been a gauntlet all season, matching up with several high-end teams.
The Eagles will now get a full week off before they get back into conference play with their final five matches of the regular season. JU sits at 3-5-5 overall, and 2-0-3 in conference play. With a strong finish, Judson has an opportunity to be in the top four in the conference standings.
They will be at St. Francis next Saturday.
