Elgin, IL - In a late afternoon match, the Eagles took on a solid Marian (IN) team that was 5-1 entering the day. Judson came out playing well with their passes finding the mark early on.
In a quick strike in the first half, on the Eagles' first credited shot, Anthony Cordova was able to slip one into the right corner of the net coming off of a well-timed pass from Mark Leavy. The goal in the 13th minute gave JU an early 1-0 lead.
After being held scoreless in their last three matches, Judson was finally able to break through and get on the scoreboard.
A few minutes later, the Eagles were unable to capitalize on an empty net chance that would have made the score 2-0. On the next time down the field, Marian had a shot connect with the post, that really would have swung the tide. But, JU was able to withstand the attack.
Just before half, captain Gabriel Uno just missed a goal when he blasted one off of the crossbar. Judson had limited chances, but seemed to make them all quality looks at the net, however just had the lone goal to show for it.
Marian outshot the Eagles 10-4 in the first half. Yet, it was the Eagles taking the lead into halftime.
The second half saw more attacks by Marian as they applied pressure on JU. That pressure was enough as the Knights tied the game on a header in the 57th minute.
Marian outshot the Eagles again 9-4 in the second half.
After a competitive back and forth first half, the pace in the second half became very choppy due to 12 cards issued during the half, and after the final whistle.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie with both teams feeling like they left chances on the field.
For Judson, Ivan Dominguez was credited with 10 saves in the game. Cordova and Leavy put together five of JU's eight shots on the day.
The draw puts Judson's record at 1-3-2 on the season.
Judson's next match will be September 16th, at home versus Bethel.
