Wild Start For Eagles Against Blue Devils
Streamwood, IL - The Eagles played host to Lawrence Tech on Saturday. For two teams looking for their first win, the opening quarter was about as wild as you can get.
Judson had the opening possession of the game, and after just three plays, JU found paydirt. A 65 yard pass and catch by Marcus Freeman to Zach Mcgee got the Eagles on the board first.
Lawrence Tech answered with a field goal, and after a quick turnover, took the lead 10-7 on a touchdown run.
Midway through the quarter, Mcgee found the endzone for the second time, this time from 8 yards out.
The Blue Devils answered with two more scores in the quarter. The first quarter saw a combined 38 points, and a Lawrence Tech 24-14 lead.
However, the Eagles could not quite keep up with the scoring madness. After a scoreless second quarter, JU was only able to put together two touchdown drives total in the second half.
The first was a thrid quarter run by Harrison Hannah from two yards out. The final score was a touchdown pass from backup quarterback, Jace Velasquez to Kay Coleman from 20 yards out.
The final score was Lawrence Tech 59, and Judson 28.
For the game, Judson put up 498 yards of total offense, with 410 via the pass. But for the Eagles, unfortunately three turnovers prevented them from trading touchdowns with the Blue Devils.
Freeman finished 21-34 with 311 yards, and two scores.
Tyler Johnson led with 43 yards rushing.
While he did not score, Grant Alexander Jr had a great day at the office with 10 catches for 148 yards. Mcgee had six catches for 107 yards, and two touchdowns.
Judson will now begin their final five games against MFSA divisional opponents. The first being at Olivet Nazarene on Saturday the 18th.
