Eagles Pick Up First Win In Florida
Auburndale, FL – A day after seeing their winning streak end, the Eagles had a quick turnaround down in Florida. Their second game against Cornerstone went much better than their first. JU was in dominant fashion on Friday morning, rolling to a 13–0 victory over Cornerstone in seven innings.
Judson wasted no time getting the offense going, erupting for four runs in the first inning. After Blake Stempowski led off with a double, Kevin Flores reached on an error to bring home the first run of the game. Alijah Acevedo followed with an RBI single, Matt Armstrong ripped an RBI triple, and Yasiel Trinidad capped the inning with a run-scoring triple to give the Eagles an early 4–0 lead.
The Eagles continued to apply pressure in the second inning as Flores delivered an RBI double and Acevedo added an RBI double of his own to extend the lead to 6–0. Judson added three more runs in the third behind an RBI double from Kyle Schwartz, an RBI single by Carson Hubert, and an RBI knock from Stempowski to push the advantage to 9–0.
Judson tacked on four additional runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI hit-by-pitch from Derek Cintron and a sacrifice fly from Trinidad to complete the scoring.
On the mound, Trinidad was just as impressive as he was at the plate. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing only three hits while striking out eight in seven innings to earn the win and move to 2–0 on the season.
Offensively, Judson collected 11 hits in the game. Acevedo led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Armstrong added two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Stempowski reached base multiple times and scored twice as the Eagles improved to 11–4 on the season.
Judson will continue play on its Florida Spring Break trip with more games scheduled throughout the week.
