Flores' Grand Slam Caps Comeback, Sweep
Louisville, KY - The Eagles are on a roll.
Judson University baseball capped off a dominant weekend by sweeping four games from Lourdes University in Louisville, stretching its winning streak to eight straight as the team heads into its Florida Spring Break trip with serious momentum. And they did it in grand fashion on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 – Judson 6, Lourdes 2
On Friday night, Judson broke open a tight contest with a four-run seventh inning to secure a 6-2 victory. Alijah Acevedo delivered a key home run and later added a sacrifice fly, while Matt Armstrong collected three hits, including a clutch RBI double in the final frame.
On the mound, Yasiel Trinidad struck out nine over five innings before Daniel Alworth closed the door with two scoreless innings to earn the win.
Game 2 – Judson 6, Lourdes 4
In the night cap Friday, The Eagles erupted for four runs in the sixth inning to flip a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 advantage. Blake Stempowski drove in two with a single, and Kyle Schwartz added an RBI knock and later scored on a wild pitch to help build separation.
Owen Wanner went six strong innings to earn the win, while Brian Wrenn picked up the save despite a late Lourdes push.
Game 3 – Judson 9, Lourdes 1
On Saturday, it was more of the same recipe for JU. A tight game, and a big inning lead to a Judson win.
After a tight 1-1 game through five innings, Judson exploded for eight runs in the sixth to turn it into a runaway. Chazz Crook sparked the rally with a two-run double, while Derek Cintron and Acevedo each added RBI doubles.
Acevedo was dominant on the mound as well, tossing a complete game three-hitter to secure the win and complete the sweep. Acevedo is now 3-0 on the young season.
Game 4 – Judson 4, Lourdes 2
To wrap things up, the Eagles ended the weekend in a grand way.
Judson used one swing of the bat to secure the sweep, erupting for four runs in the sixth inning to rally past Lourdes 4-2 in the finale.
The Eagles were locked in a tight pitchers' duel through five innings. Lourdes scratched across single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-0 lead, while Judson struggled to capitalize on early baserunners despite five walks drawn through the first five frames.
Everything changed in the bottom of the sixth.
With one out, Trinidad walked and stole second before Acevedo reached on a free pass. Pinch runner Bryce Rosenow and Trinidad both moved into scoring position with aggressive baserunning, and Armstrong drew a walk to load the bases. That set the stage for Kevin Flores, who launched a go-ahead grand slam to right field, flipping a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 Judson advantage in one decisive swing.
On the mound, the Eagles pieced together a strong staff effort. Jacob Skinner tossed four innings, allowing just one run while striking out five. Nate Ross bridged the middle inning, and Yuki Shigeyasu was dominant in relief, striking out three over two perfect innings to earn the win and close out the game.
Flores finished with four RBIs on the grand slam, while Armstrong and Allan Navarro each collected hits as part of Judson's five-hit attack.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 10-2 on the season and completed the four-game sweep, carrying an eight-game winning streak into their upcoming Florida Spring Break trip.
Across the four games, Judson showcased balance in all phases — timely hitting, opportunistic baserunning, and strong pitching. The Eagles improved to 10-2 overall and now carry an eight-game winning streak into their Florida Spring Break trip, where they will look to keep the momentum rolling.
After running for the roses, and slugging a big inning in each game, the Eagles will now fly south for spring break.
