Eagles Rack Up Hits, Series Win
Elgin, IL - On Saturday afternoon, the Eagles Baseball team concluded their series with the St. Ambrose Bees with two games at Hoffer Field.
Game one was not much to speak about for JU falling 13-1. A St. Ambrose first inning grand slam really turned things south in a hurry for the Eagles.
But, give Judson credit, game two was a completely different narrative. The Eagles came out swinging, looking for the double header split.
Judson was able to get back to their hot hitting ways by putting up 16 hits en route to a 15-5 victory. The Eagles certainly did a nice job responding after the game one loss.
JU scored 15 runs without the benefit of a home run. Daley Thompson had a 2nd inning RBI single, Kyle Schwartz and Kevin Flores had RBI doubles in the 4th inning, and those same two notched RBI's in the 5th inning as well.
After giving up five runs in the 7th inning to make the game a bit closer, Judson quickly got those runs back with a steady attack in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Allan Navarro, Alijah Acevedo, and Blake Stempowski all tallied RBI's in the inning. The capper was a Hudson Deal RBI single in the 8th inning to close things out.
In the game, Kyle Schwartz and Nate Stempowski had three hit games, while Kevin Flores had a 3 RBI effort.
All of this was in support of Adrian Nery on the mound who tossed 6.2 innings, striking out five batters. It was win number five for Nery who is 5-0 on the season.
The Eagles remain in conference playoff contention as they sit two games back of first place, and two games up on the final spot. Things are very bunched up with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. Judson is 20-19 overall, and 12-10 in conference play with 10 games remaining.
Next Saturday at Hoffer Field will be senior day for the Eagles as they host Trinity Christian.
