Spang's Go-Ahead Single Caps Doubleheader Sweep Over TCC
Elgin, Ill. The Judson University Baseball Team swept the three-game weekend series against Trinity Christian to improve to four games over .500 in conference with 10-4 and 6-5 wins.
In the opener, Judson had a six-run first inning with RBIs from Adam Zeratsky, Cam Pauly, Timothy Ellinger, and Dayne Frederick. In the second inning, Judson added on to its lead with a Zeratsky RBI hit. Zeratsky's third RBI hit came in the fourth inning with a single, followed by another RBI hit from Cam Pauly. Trinity Christian scored once in the fourth and three times in the sixth, but the deficit was too large for the Trolls. Zeratsky, Benjamin Nelson, and Cam Pauly had multi-hit games for Judson. Tommy Louch pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs in seven innings, striking out five and walking two.
In the nightcap, Adam Zeratsky scored on a double steal of home in the third inning. Judson scored another tally in the fifth on an RBI single from Alec Spang. In the seventh, Spang and Zeratsky had sacrifice flies to make the game tied at 4. After TCC took the lead in the bottom of the eighth, Judson scored twice in the ninth, including an Alec Spang go-ahead single to give Judson the lead for good at 6-5. Emilio Guitron got the start for Judson and allowed four earned runs in six innings. Jake Berger pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, while Brandon Van Buren got the win by allowing only one run and one hit in 1.2 innings pitched. Matt Johnston earned his second save of the year pitching a perfect ninth striking out one.
Judson (15-21, 13-9 CCAC) hosts Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
