Eagles Take A Pair From Carroll University
Elgin, IL (Wednesday, Apr. 1st) Hoffer Field - Judson traveled back home Wednesday for a non-conference twin bill against the visiting Carroll University Pioneers. After dropping their last two games against Purdue-Calumet, the Eagles were looking to get back into their 12 game win streak rhythm. One of the best day's of spring provided for a great day of baseball as Judson got back to doing what they do best.
Judson (21-9, 8-4 CCAC) was slow to produce offense in game one, but eventually scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the game 3-1. Game two had the Eagles winning by a bit larger margin with a 7-1 victory. The Eagles still remain perfect at home with a record of 11-0.
Judson will get a day of rest before taking on Trinity International (IL) in continued CCAC action. The single nine inning game will start at 1pm. The Eagles will look to get back into conference play Friday, and will continue the series against TIU Saturday as well.
GAME 1: Judson - 3 ~ Carroll - 1
The Eagles got off to another slow start as the Carroll starter held Judson to just two hits and no runs through five innings. Judson staffed the game defensively as Nate Peterson (FR/Byron, IL) got the start and was followed by Alex Galik (SO/Downers Grove, IL ), Patrick O'Reilly (JR/Queens, NY), and Ryan Perez (JR/Hampshire, IL). After Peterson's three innings of work Carroll only found one run in the third inning. Perez would eventually get the win once Judson scored three runs in the six, as his 1.1 innings of work and 93 mph fast ball and seemingly unhittable curveball closed out the game giving the Eagles the 3-1 win. Leading the offense for Judson seemed to be the Carroll defense. Carroll was able to turn two important double-plays both win runners in scoring position, but let three errors propel the Eagles to a three run sixth inning. Luke Rojas (JR/St. Charles, IL) would be one of three Eagles to score after his pinch hit bunt single loaded the bases. Chris Simon (SR/Chicago, IL) would stay hot with a two RBI single that scored Billy Wright (SR/Crystal Lake, IL) and Mark DeYoung (JR/Plainfield, IL). Alex Mumm (SO/Winnebago, IL) would reach on a fielders choice RBI that scored Rojas for Judson's last run.
GAME 2: Judson - 7 ~ Carroll - 1
Luke Rojas carried the momentum into game two with two doubles in his first two at bats. The Eagles would tack on almost a hit per inning and continued to capitalize on Carroll committing four errors. Frank Oliver (SR/Elgin, IL) opened and closed the third inning starting the Eagles offensive six run inning. Oliver's lead-off single led to Roja's second double of the day to tie the game at 1-1. A snowball effect soon took place as Cameron Balough (SR/Santee, CA) would double for two RBI's and an error extended the inning for Alex Mumm to hit another base-clearing double for three RBI's. The three extra base hits and Carroll error gave Judson the 6-1 lead after three complete innings. Mumm would continue having a day at the plate bagging his second double in the fifth that eventually scored on another Carroll error.
Judson got a great start from Ahren Ludwig (FR/Carpentersville, IL) who ended with the win and improves to 1-1 on the season. Ludwig started off strong striking out five of the first six batters he faced. He would continue to dominate walking only two batters, allowing two hits and ending with eight strike-outs on one earned run. Josh Rahn (FR/Schaumburg, IL), Ty Parquette (SO/Crystal Lake, IL), and DJ Spears (SO/Lombard, IL ) would each take an inning after Ludwig and would combine for no hits. Spears would strike-out the three batters he faced in the top of the seventh inning. Judson would go on to win 7-1.
