Judson was a clear choice for Hallie Niewold, who begins, "I came to Judson because I wanted to go to a small school and I wanted to be able to play softball."

The 5'8'' freshman at Judson University has been playing softball since she was in the first grade, but even after these many years of competing in the game, she says, "I have learned a great deal at Judson, but I know now that I have a lot more to learn."

Fortunately for Niewold, she has several years ahead to put these lessons into practice on the field. Even after her Judson softball career is complete, she takes the long-term view on things: "You learn so much from playing a sport that will help you later in life," she states. "These lessons are learning to be disciplined, having a good work ethic as well as respect for other people."

Amidst these lessons, Hallie also shares some more poignant thoughts, "I have learned that I am not perfect and that I will make mistakes. [But] I will have my teammates behind me every step of the way supporting me to help me become a better player."

"Playing at a college level is so much different than high school," Niewold explains. "I have become more mature in the way I act and play softball. I have also been given a great opportunity to stay in shape as well as play the sport I love."

In addition to becoming a more seasoned softball player, Hallie has also experienced a growth spurt spiritually. Amongst other things, Niewold claims, "I really like that I get an accountability partner I can go to if I need anything or to talk." Judson promotes a healthy environment for the athletes' spiritual life by encouraging devotions as well. "I love how we have a softball small group every week where we can not only talk about God and the Bible, but anything that is bothering us and things we would like prayer for."

One of the best parts of being apart of a team is the camaraderie between the members. "I love how different we all are on the team but how we all come together for one goal," she expresses. In the midst of training, Hallie shares how happy she is that the players feel comfortable to joke around "even while Coach is pushing us!"

Because of these uplifting experiences, Niewold finds herself in exactly the kind of school she dreamed of attending. According to Hallie, she wasn't aware of Judson's Christian affiliation until a campus visit. "That made it even better, since I grew up in a Christian household," she states. "I could really be myself here!"

Along with her Christian upbringing, Judson has helped instill a balanced view of how to play softball. "I play not only to please myself but even more to please God. I want Him to be happy with what I am doing with the life He gave me," Hallie tells. She shares how she strives to stay positive and play for God's glory. "I know that God is watching what I say and do on the field," she adds.

Niewold is learning much at Judson academically, spiritually and athletically. To sum it all up Hallie finishes, "I have learned to push myself physically and understand that I am able to do anything that I set my mind to."
