Coming off her finest season in seven years at Judson, Becky Stenning enters her eighth year with a program that is one of the tops in the Midwest. This past season, she guided Judson to their first-ever CCAC Championship, fourth NCCAA World Series, and produced the programs first-ever NAIA All-American.
Having back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first-time in the history of the program, Stenning's team won the program's first-ever CCAC regular season championship with a 14-4 record and went to their third NCCAA World Series in four years. They also broke the program record for wins for the third year in a row gaining 32 wins. Her team also had a program best three NCCAA All-Americans and All-CCAC first-team selections and five All-CCAC players.
Stenning set a firm foundation for her program the last four years as she graduated three players in 2011 that were four-year lettermen in Nicole Dimiceli, Carrie Sensor, and Kristin Krueger. All three players rewrote the single season and career record books. Dimiceli leaves Judson as the most decorated softball player earning four NCCAA All-American and All-CCAC first-team selections. She is also the first-ever NAIA All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-American for the program.
The 2010 season brought 30 wins for the first-time, ever, as they posted 31 wins and went to their third NCCAA National Tournament. Stenning's team also broke five offensive records and had three players named to the All-CCAC first team in Nicole Dimiceli, Concetta Lampugnano, and Lizzy Jacobson. The 31-29 record also marked the first season above .500 season since 2003.
In her five years prior to 2010, Stenning guided Judson to 97 wins to become the all-time wins leader. In 2008 and 2009, she had 20-win seasons (24, 25) and 10 or more wins in the CCAC. She also took her 2007 and 2008 teams to their first-ever national tournaments in the NCCAA and finished third in 2008. Seven All-CCAC first-team players and six NCCAA All-Americans have all come in her first five years, too. Judson's first All-American came under Stenning's watch in 2005 as Taylor Hamstra was given the award while also producing their first-ever NAIA All-Region and NFPA All-Region players.
Stenning guided Judson to a then program best 25 wins and two wins over perennial national power Olivet Nazarene in 2009. Judson also won a then program best 11 games in the CCAC and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CCAC Tournament. Five players were also in the top 10 of several categories in the CCAC and three players in the top 30 in the NAIA. For the second year in a row, she produced a CCAC Freshman of the Year and had three players on the All-CCAC first-team.
In 2008, she won 24 games and broke the broke the single season wins record in the final game of the season. They finished 24-24 and 10-8 in the CCAC and were ranked as high as third in the region. She also produced their first-ever NAIA All-Region player in Nicole Dimiceli who was also the CCAC Freshman of the Year and All-CCAC first-team. Judson also picked up their first program win over St. Xavier University and finished third at the NCCAA National Tournament.
The 2007 season was a stepping stone in the Stenning era as the team finished 18-24 and went to the NCCAA National Tournament where they won their first-ever post-season game over Cedarville University, 3-2. She also coached two NCCAA All-Americans and had one all-CCAC First-Team selection.
Going 14-25 in 2006, she helped to improve the team record from 2005. Two players were named to the NCCAA All-Region team along with one on the all-CCAC honorable mention team. In 2005, her first season,the team won 11 more games than the previous season and finished third in the CCAC standings.
Prior to coming to Judson, Stenning spent seven years at Illinois Wesleyan as an assistant coach and player (1998-2004). In those seven seasons, her teams won 242 games, went to four NCAA Division III National Tournaments, won six CCIW Championships and one NCAA Regional Championship, and finished third in the nation in 2003.
She was also a part of four of the best years (2000-03), ever, at Illinois Wesleyan. The first two came as a player (2000, 2001) while the next two were in coaching (2002, 2003). In those four years, Illinois Wesleyan went to four straight NCAA Division III National Tournaments and won 30 or more games in each season. In Stenning's senior year, her team won a program best 39 games.
In her three years as an assistant coach, she was a part of a staff the helped the Titans to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III World Series in 2003, an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2002 and three straight regular-season CCIW championships. The Titans also won the CCIW Tournament Championship in 2002 and 2003. In 2003, the coaching staff earned CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year.
Stenning was a four-year player for Illinois Wesleyan from 1998-2001. Her teams made two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2000 and 2001. As a senior, she was a team captain and also received the Gwen Meyer Award for Outstanding Leadership, Sportsmanship and Hard Work. She was on the Dean's List and earned the Order of the Titans Award for Community Service and Leadership.
In 2001, Stenning graduated from IWU with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Mathematics. Following graduationshejoined the IWU coaching staff while also completing her Master's Degree at Illinois State University. In 2003, she earned her Master's of Science in Kinesiology and Recreation with a concentration in Athletic Administration and Sports Management.
Stenning is an exercise sport and science professor for Judson and a 1997 graduate of Crete-Monee High School. She currently resides in Elgin and has one dog, a golden retriever, Moose.
