Working in golf the past 18 years as a high school and college coach, Judson University has announced the hiring of Charles Van Horn III as the new men's golf coach to replace Chris Watson.  Van Horn comes to Judson after coaching at Waubonsee Community College the past seven years as an assistant coach.

"Judson has found a stellar golf coach in Charles Van Horn," comments interim director of athletics Tony Tompkins.  "He is an all-around guy that has strong skills in the golf world and will be able to take the golf program to the next level. "

At Waubonsee Community College, he has assisted head coach Dave Heiss the past seven years assisting in all areas.  Waubonsee has consistently competed for the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championship every year and for a spot to the NJCAA National Tournament.  Prior to his time at Waubonsee, he was the head coach at Aurora Central Catholic High School for 11 years.  In that time his teams or an individual went to the sectional tournament eight times. 

Starting Black Diamond Golf, Van Horn has his own business of making golf clubs as a custom golf club technician.  He also competes in Regional Professional Golf Tournaments.

Van Horn retired in 2011 from the Aurora Fire Department where he was a Senior Medic the past 20 years.  He has had the titles of Fire Fighter III, Incident Commander of the Hazardous Materials Unit, and a Master Diver.  As a part of the fire department, he has competed at the World Police and Fire Games six times in Australia, Sweden, Canada, and the United States. 

He has two bachelor degrees earned in 1983 and 2008. He earned a bachelor's in Engineering from Southern Illinois University in 1983 and then received a bachelor's of science degree in business management from Benedictine University in 2008.  He also has completed associate's degrees from Morrison Institute of Technology (1981) and Waubonsee Community College (2010).

He is married to his wife, Glenda, and they have three daughters Amber, Leah, and Alison.
