
JOLIET, Ill. - A valiant team effort by Judson University (2-10) led to a 102-92 double-overtime win against the University of St. Francis (IL) (2-10). Judson was down by as many as 21 points in the first half before coming back and forcing overtime. Landon Skinner produced his second career double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Following Skinner in scoring was Marious Lobdell with 25 points which ties his career-high. Jim Kuban had 14 while Josh Edwards added 10. St. Francis' Greg Leavell led all scorers with 31 points.
In the first three minutes of the game, Judson had a six-point lead, 6-2, but St. Francis came back to tie the game at 12, with 14:21 left in the half. In the next 12 minutes, St. Francis put together a 34-13 run for a 21-point lead, 46-25. Judson did bring the lead down to 17, 46-29, at the half.
Judson opened the first five minutes of the second half on a 19-6 run to come within four points, 52-48. By the 11:50 mark, St. Francis built their lead back up to 10, 60-50, and with 7:51 left in the game they had a commanding 16-point lead, 71-55. Judson kicked their offense in gear and played a stiff defense as they outscored St. Francis, 24-8 in those final seven minutes to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, there were three ties that sent it to the second overtime. With 20 seconds left, St. Francis' Leavell hit two free throws to give them a three-point lead, 87-84. Kuban swooshed home one of his two three-pointers in the game with just 13 seconds left in overtime to tie the game at 87. St. Francis missed a three-pointer with three seconds left for the win.
A strong defensive effort in the second overtime period propelled Judson to the win as they held St. Francis to just five points while scoring 15. Judson scored the first eight points in three minutes and never looked back. St. Francis missed their first five shots and did not score a point until there was 1:25 left in the overtime period.
Judson finished shooting 50% from the floor and three-point range and made 64% of their free throws. St. Francis shot 39% from the floor, 34% from three-point range, and 68% from the stripe. Each team had 18 turnovers and St. Francis edged Judson in rebounding, 46-45.
Judson is now off for 10 days before they embark on a road trip where they will play four games in five days through Wisconsin and Minnesota.
