#5 Judson 1, #4 Palm Beach Atlantic 1 2OT Shootout (5-3) - Box

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Gustavo Oliviera (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) kicked the game winning penalty shot after double overtime to advance into the semi finals match at the NCCAA National men's soccer tournament. After a very physical game Judson University came out on top during the shootout, 5-3, over Palm Beach Atlantic (a NCAA Division II program).  The match goes down as a tie but Judson advances to the next round.

In the 29th minute Tom Kruse (Rostock, Germany) scored the only regulation goal for Judson, dribbling through several defenders before beating the goalie with the shot from the left side of the box.

In the shoot out, all five Judson players made their shots.  The order was Rafa Heck, Jimmy Romano, Danny Hinterlong, Martin Khoshaba, and Oliveira.  Palm Beach Atlantic made their first shot (Chance Sumner), missed their second shot (Gabe Carneiro), and then made shots three (Johnathan Clark) and four (Juan Villagrana).  With Oliveira making the fifth shot, it ended any hopes of sending the shoot out into another round.

The game started off rough and continued that way till the very last minute of play. Although the fouls ended up being fairly evenly called Judson ended up getting three players ejected and six cautions. Starting in the 63rd minute Judson played with a man down clear to the end eventually playing down three players.

Judson controlled this match from the beginning, playing very heavy defense throughout. Even when down three players Judson continued to play heavy defense allowing just two shots on goal. Six Eagles had shots on goal with four of them coming in the first half.

Palm Beach Atlantic out shot Judson, 11-6, but Judson had two more fouls, 25-23.  There were a combined 14 cards pulled in the match with three red cards to Judson.

Judson will now face #8 Mid-America Christian at 6:30 p.m. central time on Thursday, December 3rd, for the right to play for the NCCAA National Championship.
