#14 Cornerstone 88, Judson 82 - Box
 

ELGIN, Ill. - Taking a four-point lead with just over four minutes left in the game, Judson University's (1-9) bid for an upset over #14 Cornerstone University (8-2) was burst as the Golden Eagles outscored the Eagles, 13-3, for a six-point win 88-82. Judson did not hit a shot from the floor in the final four minutes of the game.

Landon Skinner finished off a 14-1 run over five and half minutes in the second half to give Judson a four-point lead, 79-75, with just 4:19 left in the game. Judson was down, 74-65, at the 9:38 mark after a Cornerstone three-pointer. In the run, four different Judson players scored. LeStan Hoskins gave Judson their first lead in the game since the 13:46 mark in the first half when he stole the ball and finished off the fast break with a dunk to put Judson up, 77-75, with 4:50 remaining. After a Josh Weber steal to start another fast break that finished with the Skinner layup, Cornerstone picked up their defense to finish the game holding Judson to making free throws and missing six consecutive shots.

Skinner and Weber led four Judson players in double figures as they both had 16 points. Marious Lobdell added 15 and Hoskins had 12. Lobdell had an outstanding night at the line as he was a perfect 8-of-8. Michael Wood played the best game of his career in his first start with career highs of nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Justin Yoder led Cornerstone with 20 points.
 
 

In the first two and half minutes of the game, Judson shot out to a four-point lead, 6-2. Cornerstone answered right back with a 10-6 run to tie the game at 12 at the 14:49 mark. In the next minute, Lobdell went to the line twice and made four free throws to give Judson the lead both times by two points. The latter of the two free throws gave Judson a 16-14 lead with 13:46 remaining in the half. Cornerstone's offense went took over and went on a 17-6 run in three minutes. A Bryan Pasciak three-pointer put Cornerstone up, 31-22, with 10:43 on the clock.

Answering with a 10-2 run of their own to come within one, 33-32, Judson's Anthony Ahlers hit a layup at the 8:48 mark to finish off the run. Cornerstone pushed their lead back to eight, 45-37, with 5:02 remaining. Joel Benson put Judson within three, twice, with a layup at the 4:29 mark and two free throws at 3:59 (49-44). Judson could not get any closer as Cornerstone had a seven point advantage, 54-47, at the half.

Cornerstone kept their distance in the second half as they had a nine-point lead, 64-55, at the 15:40 mark. Judson was again within three, twice (64-61, 66-63) on two Weber shots before Cornerstone had the nine-point lead, 74-65. This is when Judson started their five minute run to take the four-point lead.
 
 

Judson finished shooting 44% from the floor, 78% from the free throw line, but only 22% from three-point land. Cornerstone shot 48% from the floor, 53% from the three-point line, and 74% from the stripe. Judson did out rebound Cornerstone, 38-34, had three more steals (9-6), and two less turnovers (13-15).

Judson will host College of the Ozarks on Friday, December 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center.

NOTES: The 78% free throw shooting was the best shooting percentage of the season for Judson from the line…the 22% 3-point shooting was the second worst of the season…13 turnovers for Judson was the second lowest of the season…this was the second game in a row that Judson out rebounded their opponent (38-34, 40-35 vs. Clarke)…this is the second ranked opponent and third game this season facing ranked opponent…Judson has faced #2 Bethel (IN) twice…Anthony Ahlers, Michael Wood, and LeStan Hoskins received first starts of the season…starts for Ahlers and Wood were the first of their career at Judson…Marious Lobdell has shot perfect from the line in three games this year (2-2, 2-2, twice)…Michael Wood made most of first career start with 37 minutes of playing and career-highs in points (9), rebounds (7), and steals (4)…this was the 8th game this season that Judson shot 40% or better.
