ELGIN, Ill. - In the closest match of the tournament, Judson University (2-4) edged out Indiana-Northwest (2-2) for their second win of the season, 86-80. Judson was down 33-26 at the half.
Kirstin Johns had a big game with 17 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Sharhonda Huff came out strong with 16 points and two rebounds. Alicia Rovertoni recorded her 24th double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Lindsey Jordan also had a career-high 10 points.
In the consolation game, Goshen (3-4) beat Holy Cross (2-7) 76-53.
Indiana-Northwest came out strong with a quick 4-0 run with Judson struggling to gain control of the ball. And after that is was basket for basket with seven ties in the first half with both teams shooting equally well. With just under two minutes left in the half Indiana-Northwest went on a 7-0 run lead by Sharon Houston with five ending the half 33-26 Indiana-Northwest.
Judson started of the second half much like the first half shooting basket for basket. At 5:27 Judson was able to tie up the game with a layup from Daisy Jara. It was Kirsten Johns 3rd and final 3pt of the game that finally gave Judson the lead at 3:46 and Judson didn't look back. Indiana's Houston brought the lead back to within two (62-60) with two free-throws at 2:12 and those were to be the last points for Indiana. Rovertoni started a 4-0 run to give Judson a 68-60 win.
Judson finished shooting 40% from the floor, 47% from the arc, and 100% from the stripe. Indiana-Northwest shot only 33% from the floor, 21% from the three-point line, and 50% from the free throw line. Indiana-Northwest out rebounded Judson 52-39 with most of those being offensive boards to result 31 second chance point.
Judson will play at Saint Xavier on Tuesday the 24th at 7pm.
