Judson 3, Trinity International 2 (OT) - Box

ELGIN, Ill. - Christina Thornton tapped in the game winning goal for Judson University (12-5-3) in the 93rd minute to break a 10-match post-season losing streak to Trinity International (9-10-1), 3-2, in overtime of the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) regional semi-final match. In her last home match of her career at Judson University she walked off the field with a hat trick and a memory to last forever. The win for Judson is their first, ever, in post season against Trinity International.

Thornton was the star for Judson as she compiled her fifth career hat trick. She put Judson on board in the 20th minute on a breakaway up the middle as Tatum Teevans passed up the ball. Thornton was wide open for the shot and put it by Niedermayer. Trinity International then tied the game in the 25th minute when Niki Sigurdson beat Judson's defense in the middle of the field and put the ball in the left side of the net.

It was not until the 71st minute that Thornton collected her second goal of the match. Kristina Barreto crossed the ball from the left side of the field into the box as Thornton met the flying ball to stick it into the back of the net. Again, Trinity International matched Judson in the goal as Becky Svehla tied the match at two. Svehla found the ball in the clutter of the box as Judson's Mackenzie Fowler was down after a collision going for the ball.

Kamila Marchi had a chance to give Judson the lead in the 85th minute but her shot was just above the goal. Kaylee O'Brien then had a last ditch effort shot in the final seconds that Niedermayer saved to send the match to overtime.

In overtime, Judson's offense pressured Niedermayer early as Ashley Williams took a shot in the 92nd minute that was stopped. It was just one minute later that Thornton ended the match with her game winning goal.

Judson outshot Trinity International, 17-7, and had more fouls (10-7). Trinity International had seven corner kicks to Judson's four. Trinity International's Niedermayer finished with six saves while Fowler had two saves for Judson.

The win sends Judson to their second NCCA regional championship match in four years. Judson will now face reining NCCAA National Champions Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, November 21st, at 1:00 p.m. in Bourbonnais, Ill. The winner will advance to the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
