ELGIN, Ill. - For the second year in a row Judson University has had a presence on the All-CCAC team as four players were selected along with a "Freshmen of the Year." Christina Thornton (Algonquin, IL/Dundee-Crown HS) and Kamila Marchi (Brazil) were both named to the All-CCAC first-team as Marchi was voted CCAC "Freshmen of the Year."
Thorton, Marchi , Lynsey McFarland (Scotland), and Jenna Schiller (Hawthorn Woods, IL/A.E. Stevenson HS) were all named to an All-CCAC team.
For the fourth year in a row, Thornton was named to the All-CCAC first team. This year she was in the top three in seven different categories in the CCAC. She had 16 goals, three assists, and for 34 points.
Her career at Judson will be hard to duplicate as she has earned numerous awards and re-written the soccer record books. She is the all-time goals (78) and points (171) leader at Judson and also holds the single season record for points and goals in a season. Last year, Thornton was the first Judson player to be named the CCAC Player of the Year and she was also the CCAC Freshman of the Year in 2006.
Marchi was voted the CCAC "Freshman of the Year" along with being named to the All-CCAC first-team. She currently has five goals and seven assists for 17 points. Her seven assists leads Judson and is third in the CCAC. She is the second player at Judson to earn the CCAC "Freshman of the Year" behind Thornton.
Earning All-CCAC honorable mention were McFarland and Schiller. McFarland is on an All-CCAC team for the second year in a row as she was All-CCAC second team last year. She is seventh in the CCAC in assists and ninth in assists per game. She has eight goals and is second on the team in points with 22.
Schiller has earned her first award in her first year of play at Judson. She has helped Judson to a CCAC leading nine shutouts and a 0.79 goals per game allowed.
Judson will host Trinity International on Wednesday, November 18th, at 1:30 p.m. in the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) regional semi-final match. If Judson wins, they will travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday, November 21st, to face Olivet Nazarene and an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.
