
ELGIN, Ill. - A late 9-3 run in the overtime by St. Mary's of the Wood College put them in front for an 89-85 win over Judson University. Judson had battled back to tie the game at 74 to send the game to overtime.
Alicia Rovertoni led Judson with her 22nd double-double as she produced 16 points and 15 rebounds. Ima Petion and Rachel McBride both had career-highs as Petion scored 22 points and McBride had 11 rebounds.
St. Mary's took a two-point lead in the overtime period right off the tip off but Judson then tied it at 76 on a Rovertoni layup. Neither team scored for the next minute and a half until Rovertoni hit her only three-pointer of the game to put Judson up by three, 79-76. Just 16 seconds later, St. Mary's tied the game at 79 by answering with a three-pointer. Judson's Shannan Callahan made her first three-pointer of the season to put Judson back up by three, 82-79. Judson would not score for another two minutes on another Callahan three-pointer to cut St. Mary's lead to two, 87-85, with 14 seconds left in the game. In those two minutes, St. Mary's outscored Judson, 8-2. St. Mary's made two free throw attempts with seven seconds left as they sealed the victory.
Judson's only lead in the first half came on the opening layup by Rovertoni at the 18:35 mark. St. Mary's then went on a 12-2 run for an eight-point advantage. Eight points was the biggest advantage that St. Mary's had in the half as Judson came within in two points several times. Just before half, McBride hit a shot to make the score 35-33 at the half.
St. Mary's moved their lead to nine, 44-35, just over two minutes into the second half. Judson answered with a 13-2 run to take a two-point lead, 48-46. From that point on there were six ties. Judson took the lead at the 10:32 mark and kept it for four minutes with as large as a four-point lead (56-52). St. Mary's tied the game at 64 and held the lead until two Kirstin John's free throws with 30 seconds left to tie the game at 74.
Judson shot 33% on the game and was 71% from the stripe and 21% from three-point land. St. Mary's shot 38%, made 81% of their free throws, and was 28% from beyond the arc. Judson out rebounded St. Mary's 60-48, and had three less turnovers (26-23).
Judson will travel to Iowa on Wednesday to face Ashford University at 7:00 p.m.
