Women: 4th out of 8 teams -

LOCKPORT, Ill. - In their second ever CCAC Championship meet, both the men's and women's cross country teams competed strongly. The women placed fourth out of eight teams while the men were seventh out of 10 teams. It was a history making day as sophomores Kim Peek and Rachel Dean both qualifed for the NAIA and NCCAA National Meets.
This will be the second consecutive year for Dean to go to both meets while the first for Peek. Both will run at the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Cross Country meet on Saturday, November 14th, in Cedarville, Ohio, and then at the NAIA National Meet on Saturday, November 21st in Vancouver, Wash.
The women's took 4th out of the 8 teams competing and had 93 points just missing the 3rd place Illinois Tech by 20 points.
Rachel Dean took 4th overall with a time of 19:04. Kim Peek placed 9th with a time of 20:16 as both were named All-CCAC. Kristal Pitts finished 22nd (21:10) and was followed by Ana Garcia 28th (21:33) and Sandra Hubbard 31st (21:45) for the top five spots. In the sixth spot came Abbie Dupont who took 33rd with a time of 21:54 as Morgan Kimball was 51st (22:51) and Lisa Reitz 55th (23:17).
The men's team ran into some struggles with illness and allergies as the top runners. The Eagles placed 7th out of 10 teams with a team score of 168, narrowly missing the 6th place finish held by Trinity Christian with 165 points.
Rich Weinhandl, the head coach for men's and women's cross country, says, "The men are maturing rapidly and developing into good racers. This is definitely not the end but only the beginning for this team."
Leading off the pack for Judson was freshman Zach Adams placing 33rd with a time of 29:05. Nate Nevius placed 35th (29:20), Luke Kierys 37th (29:33), Kyle Julian 43rd (29:40), and Tim Ciochon 48th (29:59). Rounding off the top seven places are sophomore Robert Altenburger 55th (30:17) and senior Dakota West 58th with a time of (30:29). Also finishing were Scott McCracken in 65th (31:03), Ethan Hahn in 79th (32:36), iNate Ray in 96th (39:45), and Stephan Cooksey in 97th (43:33).
The men's team is now finished for the 2009 season and won their first-ever meet at Wisconsin Lutheran. They will lose senior Dakota West. The women's team is also done by has two individuals continuing onto the national meets. The women also won their first meet, ever, at Wisconsin Lutheran.
