Calumet 3, Judson 2 - Box

ELGIN, Ill. - Calumet College (5-10-2/3-5-1) pulled out their bag of tricks on Halloween to upset CCAC Champions Judson University, 3-2, at Dawson Field. Calumet scored twice within the first five minutes of the match and continued to play strong for the remainder of the match.

Edward Barcenas made a mess of things early in the box as he put Calumet up, 1-0, when he netted the goal in a bunched up group of players just over two minutes in. Judson's Alex Tyton did not see where the ball went in the mess at the Crimson Wave took the lead. Just three minutes later, Ryan Fentress took a Barcenas pass and sent it past Tyton for the two-goal advantage.

Judson finally found an offensive strike in the 30th minute when William Zardetto sailed an in-direct shot past Calumet goalie Hector Zamano. Tom Kruse then tied the match just seconds before the half ended when he dribbled through the defenders to beat Zamano for the score.

The second half was just intense for both teams. In the 54th minute, it looked as though Judson would take the lead when they broke free and scored. As they were celebrating, the goal was called off due to an offsides call.

In the next 10 minutes, Judson took five shots, with two on goal, but Zamano and the Calumet defense did not fold. With just 20 minutes remaining, Calumet broke free on a breakaway as Miguel Diaz put the Crimson Wave up for good, 3-2.

After the Calumet score, Judson was only allowed two shots with one on goal.

The loss breaks Judson's nine-match winning streak and 12-match home winning streak. The win for Calumet is the first since they started playing in the CCAC.

The match was also the final regular season match for four seniors in Cristiano Costa, Sanon Eustache, Gustavo Oliveira, and Jimmy Romano. The seniors have helped Judson to 45 wins in the past three years and two CCAC regular season, CCAC Tournament, and NAIA National Tournaments.

Judson will now have off until Wednesday, November 11th, when they will host the CCAC Tournament semi-final match.
