
ELGIN, Ill. - Adding excitement to an already important CCAC match, Judson University put over 300 fans on their feet the entire match as they fell in five games to St. Xavier, 3-2 (24-26, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 13-15). It is the fourth straight CCAC match and seventh overall match of the year that has gone five games for Judson. Judson is now sitting at .500 in the CCAC at 4-4 and tied in fifth place with three other teams.


It was a very emotional match for Judson going five games for the fourth time in a row. Judson started off the match with a 26-24 loss in game one. Judson had as large as a seven point lead, 15-8, and kept their lead all the way into the 20s. Judson was up 24-22 on a Dull kill only to see St. Xavier score the next four points to take the win. St. Xavier took their only lead of the game at 25-24 before the final point.

It was game three that Judson came out for the win. It did not start off that way as St. Xavier took an 8-3 lead. Judson scored seven of the next nine points to tie the game at 10 on a Campioni kill. From that point, each team exchanged points until the game was tied at 20. Five straight points by Judson ended the game. It started with kills from Wyman and Oelke and then two straight attack errors by St. Xavier followed by a Wyman kill for the win.
Game four brought nine ties and three lead changes as Judson hung unto the 25-23 win. Judson took an early 6-4 lead only to see St. Xavier fight back for a five-point lead, 16-11. Judson won eight of the next 11 points to tie the match at 19. Campioni gave Judson the 20-19 lead on a service ace and then two straight attack errors by St. Xavier put the lead at three, 22-19. St. Xavier then tie the game at 23 but a service error and then a kill by Dull gave Judson the win.
The most critical game of the night went back and forth but St. Xavier came away with the breaks in the end. Playing to 15, there were six ties and three lead changes. Judson took a 4-1 lead only to see St. Xavier tie it at six. St. Xavier then progressed with a three-point lead, 12-9. A kill by Oelke, a St. Xavier attack error, and a Campioni service ace tied the game at 12. St. Xavier took the lead on a kill and then a Judson attack error made it 14-12. Dull fought right back with a kill to cut the lead to one, 14-13, but St. Xavier finished the match with a kill for the win.
