Judson 4, St. Xavier 0 - Box

ELGIN, Ill. - On a day that the seniors were recognized in their final home match of the 2009 season, Judson University made history with its first-ever win over St. Xavier University in program history, 4-0. Judson finishes the regular season at 11-4-3 and 5-3-2 in the CCAC and recorded its ninth shut out of the season.

Christina Thornton (Algonquin, IL/Dundee-Crown HS) has had a stellar career at Judson as she led her team with two of the four goals. She now has 75 career goals and over 160 career points.

The 11 wins rank third best in the program which Judson also had in the 2007 season when they had when they won the CCAC Tournament. Judson also tied St. Xavier that season 0-0 in double overtime but advanced in the CCAC Tournament on penalty kicks.

Judson played one of their best matches of the year as they outshot St. Xavier, 17-7, had less fouls (5-11), and took six more corner kicks (8-2).

Lynsey McFarland (Scotland) started the game off quickly in the 10th minute when she connected off of a Kaylee O'Brien (Lake in the Hills, IL/Huntley HS) corner kick to make it 1-0.

Thornton sent in her first of two goals in the 22nd minute when Tatum Teevans (Bartlett, IL/Houghton College) pushed the ball up to her. Judson then kept its 2-0 lead until the 65th minute when Thornton finished off her scoring on an O'Brien corner kick that she found and sailed to the right side for a three-goal lead.

Alyssa Low (Hawthorn Woods, IL/Carroll Univ.) sealed the win in the 76th minute on O'Brien's third assist of the match to make it 4-0.

Mackenzie Fowler had four saves in the win with two in each half. With this shutout, she now has nine shutouts this season to lead the CCAC and 14 career shutouts.

Five seniors were recognized today in Christina Thornton, Monique Blanco, Baerbel Hartner, Andrea Pflaum, and Mandy Rivera.  In four years, Judson has won 55 matches, won 10 or more matches in three of those seasons, and won their first-ever CCAC Tournament Championship in 2007.

Judson will now wait and see the date and time of when they will play #4 seed Trinity International for the CCAC Tournament.  Judson will be the #5 seeded team in the tournament.
