Cardinal Stritch 3, Judson 2 - Box

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Going the distance in a CCAC match, Judson University left everything on the court but came up short to Cardinal Stritch, 3-2. Judson won the first and third games before falling in games two, four, and five. Judson is now 5-17 and 2-3 in the CCAC.

Judson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a 25-21 game one win but then fell in game two, 27-29. They bounced back and won game three, 25-23, only to fall in game four 23-25 and then a heartbreaker in game five, 15-17.

It was a career night for both Carissa Oelke (Oregon, IL/Oregon HS) and Alesha Wyman (Delavan, WI/Trinity Christian College) in kills and Carly Campioni (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South HS) in digs. Oelke led Judson with 20 kills while Wyman had 15. It was also Oelke's ninth double-double of the year with 16 digs. Campioni recorded 24 digs for the career high and then had 51 assists. Tracey Enzenbacher (St. Charles, IL/Elgin CC) added 18 digs while Debra Leganski (Elgin, IL/Elgin Larkin HS) finished with 31 digs. Danielle Dull (Waupun, WI/Central WI Christian HS) had nine kills.

Judson had the lead for most of game one but Cardinal Stritch cut the lead to three, 20-17. Judson scored three of the next four points for a five-point advantage, 23-18, and went on to win, 25-21.

The next four games were each decided by two points with two games going into extra points. Cardinal Stritch battled back to take game two, 29-27. Judson was up by as many as seven, 17-10, before Cardinal Stritch scored the next six points to trim the lead to one, 17-16. The game was then tied at 18, 19, and 22 when Cardinal Stritch took a 24-22 lead. A Cardinal Stritch serving error and ball handling error tied the game at 24 and then it was tied again at 25, 26, and 27. Two straight kills by Cardinal Stritch ended the game.

In another thriller, Judson found a way to take game three, 25-23. There were 18 ties in the game and no one had more than a two-point lead. With the game tied at 23, Oelke gave Judson a 24-23 lead and then a Cardinal Stritch ball handling error put Judson ahead, 2-1, in the overall match.

Cardinal Stritch controlled most of game four and was up 14-11 when Judson scored five straight points to take a one-point lead, 15-14. Courtney Martin's (Eureka, IL/Eureka HS) put Judson on top with a service ace. Cardinal Stritch answered Judson's run with a run of their own and a four-point stretch to make it 18-15. Judson tied the game at 20 and 21 but Cardinal Stritch moved to a 24-22 lead. A Dull kill cut the lead to one, 24-23, but a Judson attacking error finished off the game.

Things did not start off well for Judson in game four as Cardinal Stritch took a 4-0 lead. Judson fought back to come within in two, 9-7. Cardinal Stritch moved the lead to three, 14-11, and was looking to take the match win when Judson rallied. Two straight Wyman kills and an attacking error by Cardinal Stritch tied the game at 14. Both teams exchanged points with the game tied at 15 but two straight kills by Cardinal Stritch gave them the match win.

Judson will host the University of St. Francis (IL) in CCAC play on Thursday, October 15th, at 7:00 p.m.
