Elgin, Ill. –Samantha Vestal nailed a free kick in the 96th minute of overtime as Judson University won the CCAC Tournament Quarterfinal Match over Olivet Nazarene (11-7-1), 3-2. JU is now 10-5-1 on the year and will face St. Xavier in the CCAC Semifinals.

In the 96th minute, Judson’s Emma Mugg was fouled 25-yards out of the goal as the referee awarded a kick. Vestal stepped up and sailed a kick over the wall that hit the top of the crossbar and fell into the goal for the win.

In the first half, ONU jumped out to a 2-0 lead as they scored quickly in the first five minutes. ONU’s Michelle Davis kicked in a rebound save from JU’s Alice Phoneprasith to make it 1-0. Then, just before halftime, ONU made it 2-0 when Rachel Page crossed a ball from the right side into the left net on a breakaway from Megan Taylor. JU out shot ONU 6-4 in the first half but ONU’s Danielle Johnston had three saves to stop the Eagles.

It took JU 12 minutes into the second half to net their first goal when Mugg sailed a shot into the box on a free kick from the corner that Lynsey McFarland tapped into the goal (57th minute). Just 15 minutes (72nd minute) later, McFarland landed her second goal of the match on a penalty kick to tie the game at two. Both teams battled to the end of regulation but no one could find the net. JU outshot ONU, again, 7-0.

Overall, JU out shot ONU, 14-5, and had five cornerkicks to ONU’s one. ONU’s Johnston had five saves while JU’s Phoneprasith had two.

JU will now take on #1 St. Xavier in the CCAC Semi-Finals on Wednesday, Oct. 24th, at 5:00 p.m. in Chicago at the Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
