Milwaukee, Wisc. - Shutting out Cardinal Stritch University on their own field, the Judson University women's soccer team defeated the Wolves, 4-0, to claim their ninth win of the year. With the win, JU ties for fourth in the CCAC at 6-3 with Olivet Nazarene.
Both sophomore
Christina Thornton (Algonquin, Ill.) and senior
Samantha Vestal (Bakersfield, Calif.) recorded two goals in the final regular season match. JU will now wait to see who they host in the CCAC Tournament quarterfinal match on Saturday.
Thornton did not wait too long to record her 15th goal of the year in the 5th minute when
Vestal found her alone in the box.
Thornton blasted a shot into the net that went off of the goalies hand to make it 1-0. Just six minutes later,
Vestal broke open from mid-field as freshman
Lynsey McFarland (Livingston, Scotland) tapped over the ball for the 2-0 lead on a 20-yard shot.
Less than a minute into the second half,
Thornton scored her second goal of the match and 16th of the season on another break away when Vestal found her again. Then, in the 62nd minute,
Vestal nailed her second shot from 20-yards out for the 4-0 lead.
JU out shot CSU, 23-3, and had 14 shots on goal to CSU's two. JU's Alice Phonepraisith had two saves in the win. The shutout was also the fourth on the year for Judson.
Judson will now host a CCAC Tournament quarterfinal game on Saturday, October 20th, with the time and team to be determined.
