
ELGIN, Ill. - Playing their second top 20 team in a week, Judson University knocked off #20 Ohio Dominican with their second shutout of the year, 1-0. Judson is now 2-0-1 on the year and has produced two consecutive shutouts.
There were 70 minutes of non-scoring before Judson broke the goose egg on the scoreboard. Christina Thornton (Algonquin, IL/Dundee-Crown HS) eyed a perfect shot in the 71st minute as she just put it by the diving Aimee Simonet of Ohio Dominican. Thornton received the ball from freshman Kamila Marchi (Brazil) for the game winning goal.
Judson's defense has now held opponents to 203 straight minutes without a goal. The last goal came in the 86th minute of the first game against #6 Graceland in a 1-1 double overtime tie. Judson shutout Grand View University, 2-0, last Saturday, in Iowa.
Mackenzie Fowler (Crosby, TX/Crosby HS), the reigning CCAC Defensive Player of the Week, had six saves in the win. She now has 34 saves in three games and two shutouts.
Judson and Ohio Dominican each took 11 shots while Ohio Dominican had five corner kicks to Judson's three.
This match was also Judson's second top 20 match in a week as they played #6 Graceland on August 28th in Iowa to a 1-1 tie.
It does not get any easier for Judson as they take on Aquinas College (MI) on Saturday, September 5th, at St. Xavier. Aquinas is receiving votes in the latest NAIA National Poll.
