WHEATON, Ill. - Staying perfect early in the season, Judson University (3-0) held onto a 6-4 decision over Taylor University (1-3) in the Bob Baptista Classic at Wheaton College. Judson never trailed in the match and had five different players score goals with Gustavo Oliveira (Brazil) netting two goals.

Scoring their first collegiate goals at Judson were Corey Burke (West Chicago, IL/Houghton College) and Danny Hinterlong (Elgin, IL/Elgin Larkin HS).

Judson only had a one-goal lead at the half, 3-2, as three different players scored in the first half. Martin Khoshaba (Elgin, IL/Elgin HS) gave Judson a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on an assist from Tom Kruse (Germany). Five minutes later, Burke made it 2-0 with an assist from Sven Moeller (Germany). Taylor's Joel Ritz cut the lead to one just three minutes later (18th minute) to make it 2-1. In the 27th minute, Hinterlong came away with his first collegiate goal on another assist from Moeller for a two-goal advantage. That advantage lasted just five minutes when Taylor's David Pfeifer collected their second goal.

Just 12 minutes into the second half, Oliveira netted his first of two goals in that half. In the 57th minute, off of a penalty kick, he made it 4-2. Taylor did not back off coming within one goal, again, in the 72nd minute when Tyler Beachler matched Judson's penalty kick with his own. Three minutes later, Heck scored his second goal of the season on an Oliveira assist for a 5-3 lead. In the 77th minute, Oliveira continued the offensive blast with his second goal and three-goal lead, 6-3. Taylor's Beachler put Taylor within two, 6-4, too little too late in the 88th minute.

There were only 21 combined fouls called in the game but 10 yellow cards given out. Judson finished with just nine fouls and five yellow cards. Judson out shot Taylor, 21-17, and had five corner kicks to Taylor's two.

Defensively, Alex Tyton (Elgin, IL/Elgin Larkin HS) had six saves.

Judson will play NCAA Division III Luther College on Saturday, September 5th , at 2:00 p.m. in Wheaton.
