
ELGIN, Ill. - Exploding for three goals in the second half, Judson University (2-0) took a 3-0 shutout win over Spring Arbor (1-1) in the Judson University Invitational for men's soccer. Judson has now started the 2009 season with two shutouts over Northwestern College (1-0) and now Spring Arbor.

Tony Skarvatun (Norway) broke the scoreless tie in the 54th minute when Jimmy Romano (Streamwood, Ill./Elgin CC) crossed the ball from the left side of the field. Skarvatun found the pass inside the box and then zoomed it into the left corner of the net.
Judson continued the pressure in the half and for this received an own goal as a Martin Khoshhaba shot was stopped by a Spring Arbor defender but then ended up on in the net for the own goal (70th minute). The Judson offensive pressure continued until the end when Rafa Heck (Brazil) knocked in his first goal at Judson from 10-yards out on a pass from Gustavo Oliveira (Brazil).

Offensively, Judson dominated the game out shooting Spring Arbor, 18-4. Spring Arbor only had three shots on goal all stopped by Alex Tyton (Elgin, IL/Elgin Larkin HS). Judson's defense kicked it up a notch in the in the second half holding Spring Arbor to just one shot.
Judson will travel to the Wheaton College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 4-5, next week. They will face Taylor University at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Both teams battled in double overtime to the tie. Embry-Riddle out shot Northwestern, 19-4, and had seven shots in the overtime periods. Northwestern's only shot in the second half was the goal shot.
Embry-Riddle's Jakob Horstmann had one save on the match while Northwestern's Jeff Lanser had nine.
