Judson 1, #6 Graceland 1 (2 OT) - Box

DES MOINES, Iowa - Taking on one of the toughest teams in the nation as a season opener, the Judson University women's soccer team (0-0-1) tied #6 Graceland University (0-0-1), 1-1, in double overtime in the Grand View Classic. Judson led in the match until the 86th minute when Grand View tied the game at one on a penalty kick.

Judson's Lynsey McFarland (Scotland) collected the first goal of the season with a free kick in the 15th minute of the match for the 1-0 lead. Judson then held the lead for the next 71 minutes until Graceland took advantage of a penalty kick. Graceland stepped up and netted the goal to tie the game at one.

Each team then battled hard the next 20 minutes in two overtimes to settle with a tie, 1-1.

Sophomore goalie Mackenzie Fowler put on a show in goal as she posted a career-high 22 saves facing 34 total shots. That tops her 15 saves she had last season vs. Grand View in the same tournament.

Graceland took 14 shots in the first half and 15 shots in the second half and then a combined five in the two overtime periods. They outshot Judson, 34-9, but the tight knit defense of the Eagles only let one goal by on a penalty kick.

McFarland and freshman Kamila Marchi (Brazil) led Judson with two shots each. Judson had nine shots with five on goal.

Graceland is currently ranked #6 in the nation in the first NAIA National Poll and was an Elite Eight finalist last season in the NAIA National Tournament.

Judson will play host Grand View at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.
