SOUTH BARRINGTON, Ill. - After moving the game to an unfamiliar site off campus and waiting 77 minutes to score, Judson University (1-0) leapt into the 2009 season with a 1-0 win over Northwestern College (IA) (0-1). Sophomore Martin Khoshaba (Elgin, IL/Elgin HS) netted his first collegiate goal for the win.

Judson played the first day of the Judson Invitational at the South Barrington Conventry due to the wetness of the Judson soccer field.  Both games will be played at Judson on Saturday, August 29th.

Both teams played to a scoreless first half as Judson out shot Northwestern, 8-3, in that time. It was not until the 77th minute that the scoring drought was broken by Khoshaba. He scored the game winning goal by heading the ball into the left side of the net off a cross from freshman Tony Skarvatum (The Netherlands). Leading up to that point, Judson had a shooting barrage with four shots at the Northwestern goalie in five minutes.

Judson finished the match taking 19 shots with nine on goal. Rafa Heck (Brazil) had five shots for Judson with three on goal. Northwestern's Taylor Biggs had two shots on goal while Aaron O'Brien had two shots.

Alex Tyton (Elgin, IL/Elgin Larkin HS) recorded his first shutout of the season and his seventh career shutout at Judson while stopping six shots on goal. Jeff Lanser took the loss for Northwestern as he had eight saves.

Spring Arbor 3, Embry Riddle (AZ) 2

After taking a 2-0 lead in the first 24 minutes of the match, Embry Riddle fell to Spring Arbor, 3-2. Embry Riddle scored goals in the fourth and 23rd minutes for a commanding lead but let left the back door open the final six minutes of the first half. Westen scored the first goal for Spring Arbor in the 39th minute on a breakaway and then Preis tied the game at two with just two minutes left in the half on a free kick.

Preis then netted the game winning goal in the 73rd minute off a corner kick that curved into the back of the net. Patzig (4:57) and Franke(23:01) had the goals for Embry Riddle. Hortsman had five saves for Embry Riddle while Warner had four for Spring Arbor.

Embry Riddle will face Northwestern College at 12:00 p.m. on the campus of Judson University at Dawson Field with Judson hosting Spring Arbor at 2:30 p.m.
