ELGIN, Ill. - Finding talent to start the new Judson University men's tennis team, head coach Art Steuber has signed three new players for the 2009-10 season. Elgin products Jesse Lee Perez, Scottie Patthana, and John Boyzo all will play for the Eagles.

A 2009 state qualifier, Perez comes to Judson from Elgin Larkin High School. This past season, he won the Harlem Quad, Jacobs Quad, and was second at the Elgin Invitational and Winsdale South Invitational. He earned a #2 doubles medal at the Elgin Invitational, too. Outside of tennis, he participates in the Spanish Club, Chess Club, Strategic Gaming Club, and the Scholastic Bowl. He is the son of Jesse D. Perez and April Pomerlee.

Both Patthana and Boyzo are transferring to Judson from Elgin Community College. Patthana earned two all-Region awards as he was named all-Region first-team in 2008 and was second-team in 2009. The team captain was also a member of the Illinois Skyway first-team. He is a 2007 graduate of Elgin High School where he earned two letters in tennis at the #1 position under Larry Dehaan. He is the son of Khamehang Vilayphone Patthana.

Boyzo played two years at Elgin Community College under Clarke Hallpike. He is a 2007 graduate of Elgin High School where he was on the #1 doubles team. He also lettered in soccer. He is the son of Enedelia and Jaime Boyzo.

The 2009-10 athletic year will mark the first men's tennis team in over 12 years as Judson alumnus Art Steuber heads up the new program.
